Testing Big Box in Damboa, Borno State

In September 2019, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) took a Big Box to north eastern Nigeria and have been testing it thoroughly in the challenging situations in which they are working.

The region has been severely affected by conflict and remains threatened by Boko Haram. IOM has helped to develop and implement humanitarian response to support the complex needs of the growing number of Internally Displaced People (IDPs).

Poor network coverage has hindered staff in their work as the majority of sites have no mobile network coverage at all, making communication and coordination difficult - with even WhatsApp being unavailable in critical areas.

In September and October 2019, the IOM took Big Box to four different locations where in some cases, the network was limited to Edge/GPRS, and provided invaluable feedback on their experience of how Big Box functioned in the field.

IOM will continue to pilot the Big Box in remote field locations of Borno State in Northeast Nigeria in the coming months as part of the on-going collaboration
