Privacy at a glance

This page provides a short summary of how Jangala uses and protects personal data. For full details, including our legal bases and retention periods, please see our General Privacy Policy (PDF), which prevails if there is any difference between the two.

Who we are

Jangala is a UK-based charity that designs and delivers technology to support digital inclusion. For data protection purposes, Jangala is the “controller” of the personal data described here. You can contact us at info@janga.la.

Who this applies to

This summary applies to personal data we process about:

  • Project and funding partners and other organisations we work with

  • Individual donors and supporters

  • Job applicants

  • Mailing list subscribers

  • Visitors to our website

We design our connectivity services so that end users of our Wi-Fi (Project Beneficiaries) are not directly identifiable to us.

What data we collect

Depending on your relationship with us, we may collect:

  • Basic contact details (name, role, organisation, email, telephone, postal address)

  • Donation and payment details (for example bank details and donation history)

  • Recruitment information (CVs, work history, references and, where appropriate, equalities and vetting data)

  • Mailing list details (name and email)

  • Website usage data (IP address, device and browser information, pages visited, cookies and analytics data)

For Project Beneficiaries, we only collect device-level telemetry (for example connection and usage patterns) using one-way hashed identifiers. We do not seek to know who individual end users are.

How we use your data

We use personal data to:

  • Manage projects and partnerships and deliver our services

  • Process donations and maintain supporter relationships

  • Run fair and lawful recruitment processes

  • Send newsletters and updates where you have subscribed

  • Maintain and improve our website and digital services

  • Meet our legal, regulatory and audit obligations

We rely mainly on legitimate interests, consent, performance of a contract and compliance with legal obligations as our lawful bases, depending on the context.

When we share your data

We do not sell personal data. We may share limited information with:

  • Service providers who support our operations (for example IT, email, mailing list, analytics and donor management providers)

  • Professional advisers and auditors

  • Regulators and public authorities where required by law

  • Another organisation, if Jangala were to merge with or transfer some of its activities as part of a restructuring of our charitable work

Where data is stored or processed outside the UK/EEA, we use appropriate safeguards in line with data protection law.

How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out above, taking account of legal and risk-management requirements. When we no longer need it, we delete it from our systems.

Your rights

You have rights over your personal data, including:

  • Access to the data we hold about you

  • Correction of inaccurate or incomplete data

  • Erasure or restriction of processing in certain circumstances

  • Objection to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing

  • Data portability, where applicable

  • Withdrawal of consent where we rely on it

  • The right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

To exercise these rights, please contact info@janga.la.
