We’re hiring for a Electronics Engineer and Technician
Jangala is looking for a proven Electronics Technician with hands-on experience in electronics layout and assembly and testing to join our rapidly growing team in London. They will help us create and deliver innovative humanitarian technologies, focused initially on enabling internet access for communities around the world that need it the most.
As with all roles at Jangala, this will not be a siloed position, the Electronics Technician will be able to contribute to our work across the engineering team and beyond.
The successful candidate will work with the Lead Electronic Engineer in developing the next generation of Jangala products, which will help connect millions of people around the globe in the coming years. We’re looking for someone who wants to use their considerable skills in electronics for good.
Details of the role
The Electronics Technician/Engineer will work alongside the Lead Electronics Engineer, picking up a range of electronics related tasks for which they are skilled. These will both be technician tasks and, increasingly over time, other electronics design related tasks when appropriate.
Periodically, the candidate will also contribute more broadly to the product and organisation. Depending on current workloads, but also on the candidate's interests, they will contribute to product concept formation, managing manufacturing, hosting workshops, software usability design, and more.
For the right person this is a rare chance to be part of a team designing a host of impactful open source products over the coming years, and develop a range of electronics design skills.
The person we’re looking for
We are looking for someone inspired by Jangala’s mission and with a desire to innovate to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people. The ideal candidate will have a passion for practical electronic engineering and the underlying theory. They will also be comfortable taking responsibility for projects and working with others.
The following skills and experience are required:
Degree level qualification or practical experience in Electronic Engineering or a related field
1+ years of electronics work or project experience (Graduates with practical experience welcome)
Knowledge of ECAD software (Altium, KiCad…) and the stages of PCB design and manufacture
The following skills and experience are a bonus:
Circuit design, small switching and power protection circuits.
Firmware and software, writing code in any programming language
Manufacturing, experience managing production and sourcing
Expected Tasks
Electronics Technician tasks:
Hand soldering and assembly PCBs (including 0.4mm pitch QFN SMD)
Testing PCBs and fault finding
Managing the manufacturing of PCBs
Writing documentation and maintaining libraries
Then additionally, depending on the skill level…
Electronics Design Engineer tasks:
Electronics research and sourcing (e.g. finding suitable components)
Developing testing hardware (say thermal testing setup)
Designing PCBs from scratch (means lead engineer has more time for other tasks)
Don’t worry if you don’t have experience in some areas. An enthusiasm for learning is more important than ticking every box.

The position can be either part-time or full-time depending on the candidate, with the latter involving electric and other general technician responsibilities. The starting salary for this role will be £28k - £32k pro rata per annum. Jangala provides 29 days of paid leave a year.
