Jangala partners with Crisis at Christmas to provide WiFi connectivity this holiday season

Jangala is proud to be partnering with Crisis, the national charity for people experiencing homelessness in the UK, to provide thousands of guests and volunteers with WiFi connectivity this holiday season at three day centres and hotels in London.  Each centre will have up to 400 devices connected at any one time from 23rd-29th December.

Ian Richards, Head of Crisis at Christmas says:

“We’re excited to have Jangala’s support for our Crisis at Christmas project for the first time this year. Jangala, the Crisis at Christmas team, and our other technology providers have been working hard in the run up to Christmas to ensure our day centres and hotels will have reliable and secure Wi-Fi connections for our guests and volunteers to use.

A project like Crisis at Christmas has very specific requirements, but the Jangala team has been adaptable and responsive from the start.”

Volunteers welcome guests to Crisis at Christmas centre

With rough sleeping rising by 26% in England this last year alone, this year the charity is expecting especially high demand this Christmas. Guests will be supported with shelter, warmth and care as well as bespoke support services to prevent individuals returning to the street. The good news is, last year, more than half of Crisis at Christmas residents were supported out of homelessness. Ian says:

“On a more practical side, our Advice Service supports guests to apply for jobs, benefits, or housing, to find local services, and to research long term support.

“At Crisis we believe everyone has the right to achieve their full potential, and that this Christmas can be the start of a life beyond homelessness. Thanks to Jangala, our guests will be able to make and maintain vital connections to set them up for a brighter year ahead, and to support their journey out of homelessness."

Digital exclusion and social exclusion are closely intertwined, as more and more essential services are online, leaving behind those without internet access or digital skills. For most people, the idea of looking for a job, home, or bank without the internet is unthinkable, which is why digital inclusion is an essential tool in the mission to end homelessness.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our connectivity partner Virgin Media O2 for supporting our work to tackle the digital divide in the UK, including this project with Crisis. The whole team at Jangala are very proud to enable internet access to underserved communities and individuals working with organisations like Crisis, who champion some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in the UK.

Rich Thanki, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Jangala says:  "Jangala is proud to support Crisis at Christmas by providing Wi-Fi at three of their day centres across London, enabling a connection to services and loved ones for people experiencing homelessness. During the holiday season, the importance of feeling connected, in all senses of the word, is never more critical.”
