Making connectivity accessible to those who need it

In 2021, we were delighted to receive continued financial and expert support from our partner the Lenovo Foundation.

The Lenovo Foundation shares our vision of empowering vulnerable and marginalised people worldwide with the necessary connectivity to build forward in a world increasingly shaped by digital technologies. Our partnership started back in 2018/19 with an innovative project to provide connectivity and laptops to education centres in refugee camps and education centres in multiple locations, in partnership with Amala and Skateistan.

Since then, our partnership work has grown to include a number of new exciting projects, from connecting a healthcare clinic and community centre in the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa to supporting people living in poverty with complex mental health needs to get online and access counselling sessions here in the UK.

Together, the Lenovo Foundation and Jangala have provided connectivity to 19 partner organisations, who have used Big Boxes and Get Boxes to directly connect nearly 6,000 people worldwide. To date, our partnership has helped bring improved healthcare and education services to over 68,000 people.

Most recently, the Foundation’s support enabled us to develop, build and deploy 3 Big Boxes in Northern France, connecting hundreds of refugees in camps in partnership with Care4Calais, Roots, and Mobile Refugee Support. In the coming months, deployments in countries as wide-ranging as Peru, Nepal, and Fiji will be Lenovo-funded, and we’re looking forward to seeing the meaningful impact we will continue to make together in these new settings.

The Jangala team is deeply grateful for the Lenovo Foundation’s continued support as we scale our plans to deploy over 100 Big Boxes and Get Boxes worldwide, focussed on initiatives improving access to education and healthcare.

The Foundation’s support will also enable us to develop a ruggedised version of Get Box, and begin deploying these to bring connectivity to even more underserved people in different settings.
